Are Mixer Showers Really Better Than Conventional Electric Showers?
Importance is given to bathing since prehistoric days, when emperors built public baths for the convenience of the people. However, with change in time the way we bathe has changed. Technological changes have helped people to build their baths indoor. One of the best known innovations in bathing is the introduction of the Mixer Shower. The benefit of using a mixer shower cannot be explained in words; you have use a Mixer Shower to understand the relaxation one gets by using a Mixer Shower.
A mixer shower helps in mixing both cold and hot water until the desired temperature is arrived at. Mixer showers can be broadly classified as either a
a) Thermostatic Mixer Shower.
b) Manual Mixer Shower.
Mixing hot and cold water is an automated process in a thermostatic mixer shower. The thermostatic shower mixes both hot and cold water before it is supplied through an outlet. The shower automatically adjusts both pressure and temperature, which results in the water temperature remaining stable. Since thermostatic mixture helps in the automatic mixing of water, these showers are preferred over manual mixers.
Manual mixer showers don't have automatic mixing of water and are considered to be inferior to automatic mixers. Manual mixers are considered to be unsafe for people who are incapable of mixing hot and cold water in the right proportion.
Apart from manual and automatic mixers, there are other mixers available in the market which helps in balancing on water pressure.
You can buy fashionable mixer showers without have to spend huge sums of money on purchasing the showers. Not all mixer showers available in the markets are expensive. All you need to do is a little research before you buy your mixer shower. Some manufacturers offer budget mixer showers without compromising on quality.
Mixer showers can be used in bathrooms that have both high and low water pressure. However, you need to check with the supplier if the mixer value will suit the existing bathroom system. Surface mounted systems are easy to install and are preferred by people who have an existing bathroom system in place. When you install a flush mounted system the pipe is hidden behind the wall and only the valve is visible. Flush mounted systems can be installed if you are building a new bathroom where all the pipes are hidden behind the wall.
For effective use of a shower mixer, ensure that the pressure of both cold and hot water is the same. This is possible if the sources of both hot and cold water systems are the same. If for some reason the pressure of hot and cold water is uneven, then you need to install a balanced mixer valve. This valve will ensure that pressure of both hot and cold water is the same.
Some people hold the wrong impression that by installing a mixer shower there is an increase in water pressure. There is no difference in the rate at which the water flows from the tap and the mixture shower. One drawback of a mixture shower is that once you start using other taps the pressure of water flowing through the mixer shower reduces. However, you can overcome this problem by laying separate pipes for both cold and hot system.
